La prima impressione che si ha confrontandosi con le opere di Mariella Ostinelli-Socchi à è la notevole facilità di cui lei dispone del controllo del colore, da cui traspare una forte personalità. La sua pittura è, al tempo stesso, inquieta, equilibrata, e libera naturalmente, intrisa di semplicità ed esplosiva nell'utilizzo delle tonalità.
"Per me disegnare prima e dipingere in seguito sono sempre stati un piacere, un modo per rilassarmi dove il trascorrere del tempo non aveva più nessuna importanza. Ho sempre dipinto ogni soggetto che mi attirasse: i fiori, le nature morte, le case a matita con tutti i particolari, mia madre e i volti dei miei due figli. Un giorno, passando in automobile attraverso un bosco vidi ad un tratto la luce del sole compenetrarlo. Il bosco non fu più lo stesso; ai miei occhi era come diventato vivo. Quella luce mi restò impressa nella mente e da quel momento ogni cosa che dipingevo volevo assumesse il significato di "luce". Fu così che, senza quasi rendermene conto, passai dal figurativo all'astratto. Mi accorsi che anche il mio animo cercava questa luce. Più il mio cuore era gonfio di gioia e d'amore verso il creato, meglio riuscivo ad esprimere questa sensazione sulla tela.
Nell'estate del 2001 trascorsi tre settimane nel Sud dell'India, una terra lontana, dove la dimensione e i valori della vita sono più scanditi e sofferti. Il risultato fu che il mio animo è ancora più assetato di luce e verità. Desidero sempre più contemplare il cosmo in tutta la sua bellezza, ivi compreso il percorso che l'essere umano compie attraverso le tappe della vita, per poi descriverla sulla tela. In conclusione, vorrei che, osservando i miei quadri, le persone si possano, per un momento, dimenticare dei propri guai."
La pittura, per Mariella Ostinelli Socchi, è una scelta di vita con cui coltiva il suo mondo interiore dove ogni suo gesto è intriso della ricerca di Sè, tema che la contraddistingue e che accompagna spesso come titolo le sue opere. “Desidero sempre più contemplare il cosmo in tutta la sua bellezza,” ebbe a scrivere nel 2001, “ivi compreso il percorso che l’essere umano compie attraverso le tappe della vita, per poi descriverle sulla tela”. Un linguaggio artistico lirico e gestuale
che va man mano arricchendosi, sperimentando con nuove tecniche e materiali. Tra le sue creazioni, che non temono il colore, spiccano i suoi arazzi realizzati con la juta. Superfici dipinte che hanno anch’esse un’anima, in cui convivono “la sua fragilità e sicurezza, pacato distacco e urgenza espressiva” (Paolo Blendinger). La pittrice vive e lavora a Vacallo dove, oltre alla pittura, si dedica all’arte terapia.
"Perchè la Juta?
Vorrei attirare la vostra attenzione sul materiale che ho usato per gli arazzi che vedete appesi morbidi alle pareti: la juta, perché è un materiale semplice e umile che simboleggia la vera essenza dell’uomo.
La semplicità ci porta verso la sensibilità, dandoci la possibilità di un contatto profondo con il nostro Sè, che ci permette di riscoprire e far emergere quella bellezza, ricchezza, saggezza ancora nascoste dentro di noi, permettendoci quindi di vivere in sintonia con la nostra verità interiore, liberi da condizionamenti esterni."
L'artista s'interessa sin dall'inizio ai diversi formati, di cui contrappone le differenti possibilità espressive, dirigendo simultaneamente la loro realizzazione dando al solo colore la forza dell'armonia e del contrasto.
Mariella Ostinelli-Socchi lega gli elementi creando così un campo cromatico dove vengono accostati armoniosamente i vari contrasti tra profondità e superficie, tra volume e vuoto.

The first impression one gets when confronting the works of Mariella Ostinelli-Socchi is the remarkable ease with which she controls color, revealing a strong personality. Her painting is, at the same time, restless, balanced, and naturally free, imbued with simplicity and explosiveness in the use of tonalities.
"For me, drawing first and painting later have always been a pleasure, a way to relax where the passage of time no longer mattered. I have always painted every subject that attracted me: flowers, still lifes, pencil houses with all the details, my mother, and the faces of my two children. One day, driving through a forest, I suddenly saw the sunlight penetrating it. The forest was no longer the same; to my eyes, it was as if it had come alive. That light remained impressed in my mind, and from that moment on, everything I painted wanted to take on the meaning of 'light.' That's how, almost without realizing it, I moved from figurative to abstract. I realized that even my soul was seeking this light. The more my heart was filled with joy and love for creation, the better I could express this feeling on the canvas.
In the summer of 2001, I spent three weeks in South India, a distant land where the dimensions and values of life are more marked and suffered. The result was that my soul is even more thirsty for light and truth. I always desire to contemplate the cosmos in all its beauty, including the journey that the human being makes through the stages of life, and then describe it on canvas. In conclusion, I would like that, by observing my paintings, people can, for a moment, forget about their own troubles."
For Mariella Ostinelli Socchi, painting is a life choice with which she cultivates her inner world where every gesture is imbued with the search for the self, a theme that distinguishes her and often accompanies her works as a title. "I always want to contemplate the cosmos in all its beauty," she wrote in 2001, "including the journey that the human being makes through the stages of life, and then describe them on canvas." A lyrical and gestural artistic language that gradually enriches itself, experimenting with new techniques and materials. Among her creations, which fear no color, stand out her tapestries made with jute. Painted surfaces that also have a soul, where "her fragility and security, calm detachment, and expressive urgency" coexist (Paolo Blendinger). The painter lives and works in Vacallo where, in addition to painting, she dedicates herself to art therapy.
"Why Jute?
I would like to draw your attention to the material I used for the tapestries hanging softly on the walls: jute, because it is a simple and humble material that symbolizes the true essence of man.
Simplicity leads us towards sensitivity, giving us the possibility of a deep contact with our self, allowing us to rediscover and bring out that beauty, richness, wisdom still hidden within us, thus allowing us to live in harmony with our inner truth, free from external conditioning."
